The motivation that pushes the grand cities to keep intensifying their relationships with each other, such as through the creation of twin-city relationships and frequent contact at an institutional level, is the desire to grow their knowledge base in various spheres: culture, art, economics, industry, commerce, cooperation and solidarity.

The common factors amongst the great centres are numerous, including the similarity of urban structures, the acceptance of new themes that characterise the development of urban centres and the sensibility towards new ideas such as sustainability and respect for the environment. This is a collaboration that, in the future, is destined to keep intensifying.
