The Tourism System of the City of Milan was conceived in order to create an integrated tourism offer capable of meeting new tourism needs that are increasingly international in nature. The project was born from a partnership comprised of the Municipality of Milan, Chamber of Commerce, Assolombarda, ATM, Fiera Milano, SEA, Unione del Commercio and it counts amongst its supporters Unione Artigiani della Provincia di Milano, Fondazione “La Triennale di Milano”, Touring Club Italiano, Associazione Italiana Alberghi della Gioventù, Centro Turistico Studentesco e Giovanile, Navigli Lombardi Scarl, Fondazione Artistica Poldi Pezzoli, together with the new circuit of “Case Museo di Milano” and Biblioteca Pinacoteca Accademia Ambrosiana, with a view to support, develop and improve the tourism offer of the urban area of Milan.
The wide support for the Tourism System of the City of Milan by private and public partners is a factor of great importance for the valorisation and improvement of our territory and also for the creation of not only the conditions for consolidating business tourism, but also to implement the tourism offer in a broader sense. The Tourism System of the City of Milan is the answer for further improving the city’s traditional flair for welcoming guests to this important city and is an efficient instrument for managing large international events such as Expo 2015. Other reasons for participating in the tourism development project of the city, in view of the Expo 2015, include that of offering support to the city in terms of mobility and transport of residents and numerous guests that will arrive in our city. Furthermore, the important synergy created by the group making up the Tourism System will provide the possibility to enjoy all that the city, in its entirety, has to offer in terms of culture, entertainment and leisure to the more than five million people that pass through Fiera Milano every year and to all those visitors that arrive in the city utilizing the network of airports (Malpensa and Linate).
The Tourism System of the City of Milan also assumes an important role in managing urban tourism, positioning itself as a facilitator of development initiatives and promoter of strategic partnerships between subjects of primary importance active in the tourism chain. It is an instrument for systematizing planning, competencies and resources of the sector’s main players. This is designed to generate growth in the quantity and quality of the Lombard capital’s services that are able to promote the city, above all, as an ideal destination not only for business tourism, but also for art, culture and food and wine tourism. This will be achieved through the making the most of the many excellent attributes that have always been present in the territory.
