Quartiere Tortona - Tortona District
The Tortona district is one of the most interesting and lively areas of Milan. Known internationally, it is a strong point of reference for the fashion and design sectors. Located directly after the old iron bridge next to the Porta Genova railway station, in the former working-class neighborhood, the area ‘changed its skin’ in the nineties.
The blue collars have disappeared and the whole neighborhood has become a crossroads for fashionistas, designers, photographers and model agencies. With its 170 on-trend addresses visited by a savvy international clientele it has become one of the city’s main Fashion Districts.
"Zona Tortona” - a coordinated programme of locations, events and presentations related to design - is one of the main “Fuori Salone " attractions, a fringe event linked to the famous Salone del Mobile.
For an entire week lofts, photographic and design studios, showrooms, workshops, fashion ateliers and industrial sites in the district are transformed into exhibition areas where over one hundred companies present their products designed over the course of the previous year.
Shops, bars and restaurants, including traditional latterie and trattorie welcome the design aficionados well into the small hours, creating a vibrant cross-fertilization with the local neighborhood.
