Milan of Knowledge

Itinerary description

Milan is home to some of Italy’s most prestigious universities with the oldest tradition. This itinerary covers the universities and the principal schools, taking you through the cloisters, mixing with the students and strolling in front of modern buildings that host these centers of knowledge.

Those with an interest in science should set out from the Leonardo Campus in the Città Studi quarter, home to the Politecnico, before heading for the center to sample the art of the Brera Gallery, its Academy of Fine Arts and well-stocked library. Not far from here is the Sormani Public Library on Corso di Porta Vittoria, and towards Via Festa del Perdono it is possible to admire the large baroque courtyard and the 17th-century façade of the Università Statale of Milan that overlooks it. Next, a visit to the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (easily reached on bus 94) on Largo A. Gemelli, and finally, three more universities – the Bicocca, in Piazza dell'Ateneo Nuovo; the Bocconi, in Via Roberto Sarfatti, and IULM, on Via Carlo Bo.
