Contemporary art and a breathtaking view are two of the reasons you must visit the Museo del Novecento in Piazza Duomo. About 400 works of art are on display including paintings, sculptures and installations, spanning from Pellizza da Volpedo’s Fourth Estate on through Futurism and the artists of the second half of the XX century. Not to be missed is the Sala Fontana, with its breathtaking view on the Cathedral and the big neon by Fontana himself hanging from the ceiling.

The Gallery of Modern Art (GAM) in Milano is one of the most impressive museums in the city thanks to the Villa in which it is housed, the garden that surrounds it and its stunning art collection. The Gallery of Modern Art boasts a series of masterpieces by artists such as Canova, Renoir, Van Gogh, Manet, Fattori and Segantini, Morandi, Sironi, De Pisis and Modigliani, Picasso and Matisse.

The Art Gallery, Michelangelo's Pietà Rondanini, the Museum of Decorative Arts, the Museum of Furniture and Wooden Sculptures, the Museum of Prehistoric and Protohistoric Collections, the Museum of Ancient Art, the Museum of Musical Instruments. The Archaeological Museum gives you the chance to explore ancient history in a unique architectural environment, the former convent of the Monastero Maggiore di San Maurizio, founded in the eighth century AD, where traces of the history of ancient Milano can still be seen. Different rooms display items from different cultures and historical periods, bringing you back to Milano’s heyday as a Roman Capital.

The museum’s exhibits illustrate the history of Risorgimento, Italy’s struggle for independence. Battles, personalities and fashion from that historical period are brought to life in the 16 halls of Palazzo Moriggia. Exhibits include portraits of Garibaldi (Italy’s national hero), Napoleon’s gown, and other Garibaldi relics, such as his red shirt and poncho (he was known as the “Hero of Two Worlds” from his time in South America).

In the Palazzo you will be treated to an important collection of fabrics, garments and accessories, but it will also be possible to experiment and study fashion in all its forms. It is an informative and emotive space where, in over 2,000 sqm of floor space, one can admire historical works of art, evaluate the image of the present and construct ideas for the future.

MUDEC - Museum of Cultures - is an interdisciplinary centre dedicated to the various testimonies and cultures of the world. The new space is characterised by an open-plan organic central hall which generates an internal courtyard, a covered piazza that is a meeting place between different cultures and the community.

Dinosaurs, minerals, plants, molluscs and amazing  animals. If science is your passion or if you want to discover the history of the earth’s and man’s evolution, Museo Civico di Storia Naturale is the place for you. One of the unmissable exhibits is the hall dedicated to dinosaurs, with life-sized replicas.
