Mu.Ba. - Children’s Museum
MU.BA. was founded in 1995 with a view to creating the Children's Museum of Milan. Despite not having a permanent home it has curated and produced 13 major interactive exhibitions and several workshop activities; these are created according to specific pedagogical criteria which aim to stimulate imaginative thinking in children. Since January 2014 the museum has been established within the Rotonda della Besana, one of the most representative buildings of eighteenth-century architecture in Milan.
Inaugurated on January 24th, 2014, MU.BA. is a permanent centre for cultural and artistic projects dedicated to children, a location that opens its arms to innovation and combines national and international excellences in the fields of culture, didactics, science and the arts to promote the development of creativity and creative design thought. A place where families and children can experiment and have fun with the interactive exhibits-games, learn from specialized educators and make use of the Rotonda Bistro to enjoy the tranquillity and safe environment of the park. In fact, the portico and garden are shared spaces as the Bistro now has an outdoor terrace. Here you and your family can try the zero-miles catering, enjoy an aperitif outdoors in a safe and protected area, order the "for kids" specialities and find out what the "pic-nic basket" has in store for you.
MU.BA. has also decided to present the REMIDA project to Milan, a venture that had already been inaugurated at the Triennale Bovisa in 2010. This cultural project has a motto - recycling - and represents a new and proactive approach to experiencing the environment and "building the change". A place where the materials discarded from industrial and artisanal production are transformed, just like anything touched by the legendary King Midas, into "precious creative resources".
This non-profit Foundation is recognized at regional level.
The Rotunda is also home to the "Rotonda Corraini" library where you can find books for small children, books for big kids, books for children who can talk and also books for those who have yet to pronounce their first words, plus, books for adults who want to learn more about children and… books for adults who still want to be kids!
